MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The heavy snow and extreme cold on the way have homes buttoned up tight, keeping in the warmth, but also increasing the risk for carbon monoxide.
The CDC recommends checking or changing the batteries of your CO detectors every six months, and making sure vents are free of debris. With blowing and drifting expected over the next few days, it is recommended to clear any snow that may collect around the furnace vent pipe coming out of a home's side wall.
