NOW: Charity car show revs up money for West Allis Fire Department 🏎️

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It was a beautiful day for families and motor-heads as a fun event revved up at the Wisconsin Athletic Club (WAC).

This sound of revving engines echoed through West Allis Sunday, July 20, as the WAC hosted their annual auto show.

"You have all the old cars which are amazing and in pristine condition," said Bella Hodkiewicz of the West Allis WAC. "These are some beautiful cars out here."

Filling the WAC lot with classic cars, live music and free Pickleball - all proceeds were donated to the West Allis Fire Department.

"We're all about just like, bringing people in, getting our community together, that's really what makes West Allis shine," said Meygan MacDonald of the West Allis WAC.

Some of the shiniest vehicles on display were created more than 60 years ago, right in the city's backyard.

Alice Preston, owner of the Excalibur Automobile Corporation, began building Excaliburs when she was 17 years old. She worked for Brooks Stevens in the 1960s, at a facility just across the street.

"I've been doing it for so many years, over 40 years by this point," said Preston. "I thought, I'm not going to learn something new. I might as well keep doing this."

She also runs Camelot Classic Cars. Refurbishing, selling and showing Excaliburs.

"I've been doing something I love to do, so I've never had to work a day in my life," said Preston.

For Preston, auto shows like the WAC Auto Show honor the brand's local history and the impact it had on a generation.

"It's things they remembered when they were a kid, you know," said Preston. "When you have Steve McQueen and Phyllis Diller, and all these people driving these cars back in the 60s and 70s, they saw that and they're like, I want to have one of those one day."

Alice and her Excaliburs will be at the Concours Car Show in Port Washington on August 17.
