Christmas music officially hits Milwaukee's radio airwaves 📻
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Just a day after Halloween, Milwaukee's WRXS Pure Oldies 106.9 flipped a festive format shift. The station transitioned from its oldies hits format to Christmas songs on Wednesday, Nov. 1, launching a cascade of holiday tunes that the station says will last until Dec. 26.
Among the songs that had been played early Wednesday, according to the station's "recently played" section on its website, were "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, Perry Como's rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, Brenda Lee's iconic "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" by The Carpenters and Bing Crosby's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas."
Other Milwaukee stations with a tradition for transitioning to Christmas music, including B93.3 and 100.3 FONZ-FM, have not yet made the switch, but typically do so during the month of November.
