MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Starting on Saturday, March 16, a new city ordinance prohibits vendors from selling items from vehicles parked on Capitol Drive from 76th street west of the city limits.
That is because of concerns over the vendors becoming traffic hazards.
People appeared to be following the new ordinance today, but one food truck got creative and decided to move a few hundred feet to a side street to comply with the new rule.
CBS 58 spoke to alderman Lamont Westmoreland earlier this week.
He says this is one of the most dangerous streets in Milwaukee and many cars exiting the strip mall couldn't see past the trucks.
"This car here leaving the parking lot. This is a busy street. They can’t see past these food trucks, and this is one food truck. I’ve seen up to eight food trucks out here," said Westmoreland.
Westmoreland says this ordinance will also help protect some of the businesses in this location.
While many food trucks are following the ordinance right now, Westmoreland says if food trucks begin to park, the city will use parking enforcement, the health department, and MPD to remove them.
