ST. FRANCIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- While We Energies continues to address flooding damage at homes and businesses across our area, they are also promoting their mission of safe digging.

Monday, Aug. 11, is known as National Safe Digging Day, and to help promote it, the company has unveiled their 11th and newest "ambassadog."

Golden retriever puppy Clara, of St. Francis, will be featured on all of We Energies' safe digging promotions and initiatives for the next year.

"Digging can be dangerous if you don't know what's beneath the ground- there's utilities, electrical, natural gas, and even phone, internet, all sorts of things," said We Energies spokesperson Alison Trouy. "So if you're digging and you don't know what's beneath you, it could be dangerous for you, your family...so it's really important for you to call 811 at least three days ahead of time."

According to We Energies, Clara's humans say in addition to digging, "she loves chasing her favorite squeaky toy, snuggling and posing for photos."

And as Trouy said, before you dig, it's important to call 811 or go to diggershotline.com at least three days beforehand to ensure the safety of yourself and your family.
