'We climbed out of our windows': Flood leaves hundreds of cars submerged, ruined beyond repair

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Countless cars have been damaged or destroyed by the power of floodwaters.

In one West Allis apartment garage, more than 50 cars are a loss.

Saturday's flood forced in more than six feet of water, submerging all these cars.

CBS 58 obtained video showing the massive amount of water flooding the apartment's garage at 83rd and Orchard.

"Someone had said that people were trying to move their cars, and I had already seen the height of the water, and I was like, well ,they're not going to be able to get out," said David Curtis, resident.

Curtis had not one, but three cars in the garage at the time.

"I'm a huge car nerd. When am I ever going to have an incident where all three of my cars are not available to have at least one of them... this is that situation," said Curtis.

On Miller Park Way, dozens of cars attempted to exit the freeway but were trapped in rising water.

"We all of a sudden see the puddle of water; it looked very deceiving. We climbed out of our windows, we took whatever we could," said Nataly Andrade, who had to abandon her car on the freeway.

Once Andrade and her friends were safe, they tried to warn others of what was ahead.

"There's a whole bunch of construction on Miller Park right now, so we pulled barricades to block the entire freeway entrance," said Andrade.
