Clement Manor residents assemble activity bags for Milwaukee police to distribute to children

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Residents at a Milwaukee retirement community are helping police connect with children across the city.

Officers from Milwaukee Police Department District 1 visited Clement Manor to collect 50 bags filled with toys and coloring supplies assembled by residents.

Police plan to distribute the bags to children attending the district's National Night Out event Friday. Officers can also keep the bags in their squad cars and give them to children they meet while working in the community.

"They have something to look forward to," MPD Sgt. Carrie Pocermich said. "They put together other packages for us in the winter, so they asked what else they could do, and we suggested maybe something for children."

District 1's National Night Out will be held Friday from 3-6 p.m. at Maryland Avenue Montessori School.
