Community activists gather to find solutions to overcome federal health care cuts
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Community activists and organizers gathered to discuss ways to overcome federal health care cuts Saturday, Jan. 31.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin hosted the event. The left-leaning nonprofit focuses on increasing health care access in Wisconsin. Saturday's event is in response to some Americans potentially losing access to Medicare, as well as the end of some Obamacare subsidies.
Citizen Action says they're working to find some answers at the state level.
"We're working on this bill that would cap hospital prices at a percentage of Medicare," said Dr. Robert Kraig, executive director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. "In other words, cap it to an actual reasonable price."
Kraig says his group is also working on a bill that would allow Wisconsinites who had plans through the Affordable Care Act marketplace opt into BadgerCare instead.
It would also expand eligibility for BadgerCare.
The program is limited to people at the poverty line. The bill would allow access for people making up to twice that amount.
