Complaint: Suspect in Halloween carjackings compares crimes to Grand Theft Auto game
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 32-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with multiple felonies after a series of carjacking attempts on Halloween, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Alexander Brown of Milwaukee is accused of attempting to steal several vehicles and assaulting their owners on Oct. 31.
The complaint states that Brown first approached a man near a CVS pharmacy on 27th before entering the man’s Nissan Altima under false pretenses before later trying to wrestle the key fob away. When the owner resisted, Brown reportedly threw the key fob into another occupied car, retrieved it and attempted to steal the Altima but was unsuccessful.
Brown then went to a Citgo gas station at on 27th where he allegedly stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee as the owner was checking tire pressure. The owner was dragged a short distance as he tried to stop the theft.
Shortly afterward, officials say Brown crashed and rolled the stolen Jeep near the area of 27th and Cleveland.
An off-duty Milwaukee Fire Department lieutenant claims to have seen Brown lying in the road before stopping to help.
The complaint alleges that Brown attempted to steal the lieutenant’s department-issued Ford Expedition, though the lieutenant prevented the theft and restrained Brown until police arrived.
As he was being detained, Brown reportedly said, “I was on some five-star GTA shit,” referring to the video game Grand Theft Auto.
Brown is charged with robbery, carjacking, attempted robbery and attempted carjacking, all with habitual criminality repeater enhancers due to prior felony convictions. His bond was set at $250,000 on Thursday, Nov. 7.
