LAKE MILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A happy update on Lexi Christ, the Lake Mills mother of two in need of a kidney transplant.

We spoke with Lexi's mom, Linda Martin, who says since Lexi's story aired, UW Health has gotten 50 donor applications for people willing to go through the process of donating a kidney to help Lexi.

Those potential donors still have to go through the screening process, but the family is grateful to have so many people willing to step up to help save her life.

LAKE MILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Lexi Christ and her two daughters have been faced with plenty of adversity.

Lexi and her two daughters were born deaf, but that hasn’t changed how they treat life.

“It’s important to see my daughters happy,” Christ said. “It’s important to try to do different things with them, so I do what I can.”

Lexi is 30 years old, and was recently diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, which leads to hearing and vision loss.

“It threw me for a loop and my life completely changed,” Christ said.

She also has polycystic kidney disease and needs a kidney transplant to survive.

A living donor would give her the best chance at living.

“My kidneys are now obviously getting worse and they’re almost completely failing,” Christ said. “My energy level has gone down quite a bit.”

Christ says the lower energy levels are starting to have an impact on her daughters.

“My girls need me, and I want to be around for them,” Christ said. “I want to be able to be with my kids.”

A kidney transplant would give the family a second chance at life.

“What it would be like to be healthy versus now, when I’m sick, it’s hard to imagine sometimes,” Christ said.
