NOW: Lake Mills mother searching for kidney transplant; fighting for 2 daughters

LAKE MILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Lexi Christ and her two daughters have been faced with plenty of adversity.

Lexi and her two daughters were born deaf, but that hasn’t changed how they treat life.

“It’s important to see my daughters happy,” Christ said. “It’s important to try to do different things with them so I do what I can.”

Lexi is 30 years old, and was recently diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, which leads to hearing and vision loss.

“It threw me for a loop and my life completely changed,” Christ said.

She also has polycystic kidney disease and needs a kidney transplant to survive.

A living donor would give her the best chance at living.

“My kidneys are now obviously getting worse and they’re almost completely failing,” Christ said. “My energy level has gone down quite a bit.”

Christ says the lower energy levels are starting to have an impact on her daughters.

“My girls need me and I want to be around for them,” Christ said. “I want to be able to be with my kids.”

A kidney transplant would give the family a second chance at life.

“What it would be like to be healthy versus now when I’m sick, it’s hard to imagine sometimes,” Christ said.
