Concordia 27: New community center opens on Milwaukee's near west side

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local leaders celebrated the opening of a new community center on Milwaukee's near west side Tuesday, June 25.

Concordia 27 has everything from affordable housing units on the upper floors to space for small businesses and community resources.

Tuesday's ribbon cutting included remarks from Senator Tammy Baldwin, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, who says building like these help families find stability and a way to get ahead.

"With everything from new affordable housing for working families and seniors, to helping people land good paying jobs, Concordia 27 will be a needed physical convening space where community members are supported and small businesses are developed," Sen. Baldwin said.

Concordia 27 was funded through a private-public partnership between several organizations including Milwaukee County, the state of Wisconsin and local organizations like Near West Side Partners.
