Country superstar Morgan Wallen tour hits Milwaukee, following 2021 racial slur controversy

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A multi-platinum-selling country music superstar is attempting to bounce back from an ugly racist tirade a year ago by launching a new tour at American Family Field this upcoming April.

Morgan Wallen will launch the North American leg of his "One Night at a Time World Tour" at American Family Field on Saturday, April 15, 2023. The tour will feature 36 cities but will begin in Milwaukee.

The announcement comes about a year and a half after Wallen faced controversy for being recorded using multiple racial slurs. He pledged to not tour until he took time to "improve," saying, "I've found this time away to be very valuable to me in many ways, but I feel like I need a little more of it, and therefore will not be performing tour dates this summer [in 2021]."

He also told TMZ, "I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."

In the midst of the controversy where Wallen was seen and heard saying derogatory terms about homosexuals and Black people, his "Dangerous: The Double Album" soared in sales, becoming Billboard's longest-running Top 10 album in history for a solo artist, even eclipsing Adele's 21 and Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA.

Despite Wallen's time off, tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the public on Friday, Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m. with a "Verified Fan Presale" set to take place Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 2:00 p.m. That same day, fans will have an opportunity to buy VIP packages, "Platinum Seats" as well as tickets via the Aisle Seat Offer.

Rick Schlesinger, President of the Milwaukee Brewers said in a statement that the opportunity to launch Wallen's tour is an exciting one for American Family Field. He added, "We are proud of the ballpark’s star-studded lineup set for this summer and Wallen’s tour will begin a memorable series of concerts for the venue."

The star-studded line-up Schlesinger referred to includes P!NK who will take the stage on Aug. 14 as well as the superstar billing of George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town all taking the stage on June 3.
