MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The fall semester is coming to a close for college students, with some being awarded with diplomas this weekend, including Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee held their graduation ceremony at the UW Panter Arena on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The county executive wasn't just picking up his diploma, he also delivered the class's commencement speech. He congratulated his classmates for completing their education after a trying four years.

"You, the class of 2024, you are a testament to the resilience of our community. You began your higher education during one of the most challenging times in modern-day history. The onset of a global pandemic," said Crowley.  "Yet, through all the uncertainty, the setbacks and through the immense pressure, you all persevered."

UW-Milwaukee handed out nearly 1,100 bachelor's degrees, almost 500 master's degrees, 63 doctoral degrees and 75 associate degrees.

Congratulations to everyone who took home a diploma this weekend!
