MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This week's crime of the week involves a young man who was killed on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Community members and city officials have rallied around the victim's mother, who is known for her years of work giving gun violence victims and their families support, and her efforts to reduce crime in the city of Milwaukee.

Now she is asking for help in return.

"I support families," said Camille Mays. "I support victims of homicide, and today I am my own story. I'm the family now, I need healing now."

Below is the last exchange of text message Camille Mays shared with her son, Darnell Woodard, just one day before he was shot multiple times on 44th and Center and died.

Milwaukee police say 21-year-old Woodard and another man were inside a car when they were shot.

The other victim had non-life threatening injuries.

Camille Mays is known for her Peace Garden Project which plants gardens in honor of gun violence victims.

She's also a Milwaukee Crime Stoppers board member and is asking you to come forward with information.

"I want justice," Mays said. "I want to know what happened. I want people to call 224-TIPS Crime Stoppers if they have any information. I need healing now, my family needs healing. I need support to pull us through this, because we're going to find him. We're going to find him.:

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call 414-224-TIPS.

If your tip leads to an arrest, you could get a $1,000 reward.
