Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week: Unsolved murder of Tay Jackson nears 2-year mark
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Next week will mark two years since a young woman advocating for peace was gunned down in Milwaukee. Police still haven't found the person who killed Tay Jackson, but they're not giving up.
Jackson was 20 years old when she was shot and killed near Moody Park on Aug. 25 of 2019.
The day before she was killed, she helped put together a basketball tournament at Moody Park -- all in an effort to keep kids off the streets.
The day Tay was killed, detectives say there were two cars shooting at each other and Tay got caught in the crossfire on accident.
Investigators say they have a lot of leads in the case but they need more people to come forward with solid information about who pulled the trigger.
"Tay did a lot for her community. She was a volunteer, she served the community she was gunned down in. It would be really nice to get some closure for Tay's family," said Det. Rosemarie Galindo, with the Milwaukee Police Department.
Saturday, Aug. 21, community members will host "Tay Day" in honor of Tay Jackson. There will be a three on one basketball tournament at Moody Park. It goes from noon to 7 p.m. and will have music, food and other activities.
CBS 58 wants to remind you that there is still a $100,000 reward in this case. Anyone who calls Milwaukee Crime Stoppers with a tip that leads to an arrest gets that money. When you call 414-224-TIPS, there is no way to trace your number or identity. There's also a Crime Stoppers app where you can submit an anonymous tip.
