According to Milwaukee police, 37-year-old Martell Haire is the man they are looking for.

A criminal complaint says Champion and his sister were sitting in a kitchen inside a home near 79th and Hampton when Haire, otherwise known as "Gotti," came in.

Haire allegedly made comments about the girls at the home that the homeowner didn't like. The homeowner reportedly confronted Haire about the comments and asked him to leave, and he did.

However, officials say Haire, "came back into the kitchen, he walked around the back of her, pulled out a black handgun, and began shooting at the young boys sitting at the table 'for no reason.'"

One boy said, according to the complaint, he stayed on the ground and pretended he was dead so he wouldn't get shot more. Another boy, the complaint says, suffered gunshot wounds to the lower left abdomen, left tricep, and right thumb.

Officials say Champion died at the scene from gunshots to his head, neck, and upper body.

Marquis Chambers Family

Alderman Chambers has three sisters and brother, and all of the cousins are close -- making this extremely hard for their family.

"Nothing will bring Marquis back and nothing will and nothing will take away from the pain and loss that we have endured," Alderman Chambers said. "Just the solace to know that this man will be paying for his actions will make it more better."

Champion's funeral is Friday, Nov. 7, just a week before what would have been his 17th birthday.

If you have any information into Champion's murder, you're encouraged to contact the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
