MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was supposed to be a joyous event -- Puerto Rican Festival on Milwaukee's south side. But the night ended with a mass shooting where nine people were hurt and police are still looking for answers.

It was almost midnight on Aug. 19, when Milwaukee police say a couple of people got into an argument near El Ray restaurant as people were gathered for Puerto Rican Festival.

The argument escalated into a fight, more people jumped in, and it turned into a brawl between two groups of people.

Then, both sides started shooting at each other. Nine people ranging from age 16 to mid 30s ended up getting shot.

Police say the victims were both men and women of all ethnicities.

When the shooting started, a lot of people at the festival got out of the area quickly but detectives are hoping people who were there can help police make an arrest.

"We're hoping that some of the community members that were out there that were affected by this incident, I mean even the community members that did not sustain any gunshot injuries, just people who may have recorded or were just in the area and are now traumatized from this incident. It was really rough on the community so we are hoping that people who were out there may want to come forward and tell what they've seen," said Detective Letitia Holloway, Milwaukee Police Department.

Milwaukee police are working with the FBI to solve this case and are looking for cellphone video. You can upload videos anonymously to the P3 Tips App. The FBI also has its own video collection website. CLICK HERE for more.
