MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Surveillance video catches a man on camera as he burglarizes a downtown restaurant.
Security cameras at the Beerline Cafe caught the suspect prying open the business' front door with what they say is a homemade contraption.
This was around 1 a.m. on March 26.
He gets in pretty easily -- apparently the alarm was broken, so it didn't go off.
The guy walks around the kitchen, checks things out, then comes back out to the register. That's when he takes out the big, circular disc he used to get in the front door and wedges it between the counter and the register, ultimately breaking them apart.
He then ran the wrong way before bolting through the front door and down the street.
If you recognize this man at all, if any features stand out, call Milwaukee Crime Stoppers to help this local business.
"It looks to be a stranger, a random actor who committed a crime," said MPD Detective Jack Kelly. "However, it does look like someone who has experience prying open doors and using tools to get into buildings. Here you have a small, locally owned business that's been in business for, I believe a decade. They have never been involved in a crime before, it's a person who works hard and a single person who owns the business."
Detectives say the suspect got away with more than $1,000 in cash.
If you know anything about this crime, call 414-224-TIPS. That's 414-224-8477.
Your call is always anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you get cash.
