Delegates take momentum home as DNC winds down
CHICAGO (CBS 58) -- With the convention nearly over, those thousands of Democrats from across the country will soon return to their communities as the race to the White House approaches the home stretch.
That includes Wisconsin Democrats, who told CBS 58's Adam Rife, that the energy from the DNC will help them win over voters at home.
The convention may be over, but in many ways, the work is just beginning. That is the message from Democrats in Chicago. It was also a similar message from Republicans last month.
The battle is not for convention attendees, most convention goers will vote for their party. Many people told CBS 58 the battle is for disaffected voters who may choose not to vote.
Lots of speakers took the stage over the past four days to address a lot of issues, but many people from Wisconsin delegation told CBS 58 that they acknowledge not every voter may feel included. So, they are eager to get home and have those conversations.
One of the delegates we spoke with was Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson. CBS 58 asked him about trying to convince local voters of successes at a federal level.
"I think it’s getting out there and sharing the success of the community and the involvement and an activity that we have here. Making sure that we’re sharing the message, that we want to move our country forward," said Sorenson.
CBS 58 also caught up with Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones; he was one of the three lawmakers expelled from the Tennessee legislature last year for protesting against gun violence.
Jones told us what his party means to him.
"The enthusiasm he is amazing, it’s electric. You see a lot of young people, this coalition that’s coming together that’s challenging, authoritarianism and fight for a multiracial democracy. That’s what we’re seeing at our convention," said Jones.
