A Milwaukee man is now charged with killing his ex-girlfriend. Crystal Leopold had an injunction issued against Emmanuel Sanchez just two days before she was found dead. Police say Sanchez stabbed Leopold at a home on 25th and Orchard Friday night. Leopold was born in New London and lived in Waupaca before moving to Milwaukee.
Wednesday evening a vigil was held in the Leopold's memory. Her family and friends lined the sidewalk in front of the Waupaca Library wearing her favorite color purple and the color that is associated with domestic violence awareness. They also lit lanterns with messages to Crystal inside.
"We want to reach out to people who are being violently abused and don't know how to come out, just talk to a friend, just tell somebody," Tiffany Leopold, Crystal's sister, said.
Leopold's family is now working with the Waupaca Police Department to see how they can get programs started in their area to help victims of domestic violence.
