MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Doors Open Milwaukee returns Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27, opening more than 190 sites across the city for free public tours in its 16th year, according to organizer Historic Milwaukee.

Returning destinations include the Grain Exchange Room, the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, the Jones Island Water Reclamation Plant and the Tripoli Shrine Center, alongside new additions such as The Laughing Tap, the Martin Luther King Library and Pink Umbrella Theater Company.

UW-Milwaukee is the presenting sponsor, offering its largest Doors Open presence yet with more than 30 campus locations, including the Manfred Olson Planetarium, the UWM Panther Arena and the School of Freshwater Sciences.

Doors Open also received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts this year, supporting a kids activity booklet featuring artwork from Milwaukee artists Emma Daisy, Evelyn Patricia Terry and Adam Carr, along with weekend programming including a performance by True Skool and a hands-on art activity led by Artists Working in Education.

Historic Milwaukee, a nonprofit, is currently recruiting volunteers for the event. A full list of participating sites is available online.
