Just under 2 dozen people remain displaced 2 weeks after deadly apartment fire in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been one week since a massive fire on Mother's Day tore through the Highland Court Apartments in Milwaukee. The Red Cross has since set up a disaster relief shelter for those displaced. There were originally about 100 people and now it's down to 23.
Many of those displaced from the fire near 27th and Highland have been able to sign another lease or live with family.
To celebrate Memorial Day, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is bringing lunch and K-9 comfort dogs to help the traumatized survivors that are still at the shelter.
They're remembering those who lost their lives serving our country and remembering the five victims that died in the fire.
CBS 58 spoke with two women who have been at the shelter for the past two weeks, they say the group has become a family.
"We are survivors," said Cassandra Phelps, fire survivor. "We are happy we got to know each other even though we didn't know each other in the building. It's wonderful. I mean we actually understand what we've been going through."
The Red Cross is working to set up a multi-agency resource center to help the remaining tenants find new homes.
