Driver arrested for OWI in Wauwatosa hit-and-run crash, police squad struck by second OWI driver while responding
CBS 58 WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wauwatosa police say a 46-year-old man has been arrested for OWI following a wrong-way crash that injured a 21-year-old Milwaukee woman.
Police say they responded to the area of Mayfair Road and Menomonee River Parkway on Friday, July 25, at around 11:58 p.m., for reports of a hit-and-run crash.
A 911 caller reported a Ford F-250 truck had been traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when the driver sideswiped them.
While still traveling in the wrong lanes, police say the truck then struck a Pontiac Vibe near Mayfair Road and Watertown Plank Road, causing the truck to rollover.
The driver, and lone occupant of the Pontiac Vibe, a 21-year-old Milwaukee woman, suffered serious and life-threatening injuries. Crews took her to a local hospital, where she is in critical, but stable condition
Police say the driver, and lone occupant of the Ford F-250, a 46-year-old man from Eagle, ran away from the crash scene, but was arrested a short distance away.
During the investigation, police say the driver of the Ford exhibited signs of intoxication.
While completing the investigation at a hospital, police say the truck driver became uncooperative with hospital staff and officers, kicking the nursing staff and resisting the officers.
The driver of that vehicle, a 28-year-old Pleasant Prairie man, showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for OWI - 1st offense.
The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.
