Shoppers hit the stores for last-minute Christmas Eve gifts
SAUKVILLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A driver crashed into the front of the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) Ozaukee Campus early Sunday, Nov. 24.
It happened around 6:30 a.m., when officials say a driver left westbound Highway 33 in Saukville at a high rate of speed and struck the building.
No animals or staff were harmed.
The WHS says the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The most significant impact was to the animal arrivals area, which serves as the front desk for intaking stray animals, lost animal redemptions, surrender appointments, and more. That area will require extensive repairs.
“Staff were onsite within minutes of notification, an emergency crew is securing the building, and a building inspector is onsite to ensure the building is safe to use,” said Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications for the WHS.
The WHS management team is working on a plan to reroute services from the main entrance area.
