5 teens charged after Kenosha fire crews contain blaze at former industrial plant

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Five teen boys were identified in connection with a warehouse fire that damaged a vacant building in Kenosha.

Witnesses reported hearing noises similar to fireworks inside the building and saw five boys leaving the area on bicycles. Officers located three boys shortly after the fire while the other two turned themselves in at the Kenosha Police Department.

Each of the 16-year-old boys faces one count of disorderly conduct and one count of negligent handling of burning materials. The investigation is still ongoing


KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A vacant industrial building in Kenosha reportedly suffered significant damage after a structure fire was reported at the site of the former North American Salt Plant on Sunday, June 29.

The Kenosha Fire Department responded Sunday, June 29, at approximately 8:40 p.m. after dispatchers received information that the building on 13th Court was on fire. Kenosha police officers arrived first and confirmed flames had engulfed the structure.

Firefighters say they found fire through the roof on the north side of the building and started a defensive attack from the exterior.

Officials said crews marked the fire under control at 9:18 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread beyond the initial building. The cause is under investigation.
