RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In Racine, there's an effort to remind shoppers about the importance of Small Business Saturday, held each year after Black Friday.
The day is meant to support the small businesses across the country that create local jobs, boost the economy, and keep their neighborhoods vibrant.
Ahead of next weekend, on Thursday, Nov. 16, city leaders and small business owners in Racine came together to share tips on how shoppers can support small businesses and how businesses can make the most out of the season.
"We're very excited and we really want people to support the uniqueness and the services that these small businesses can give out," said Eric Ness, Wisconsin District Director.
Last year, Small Business Saturday drove an estimated $17.9 billion dollars into independent retailers and restaurants.
