MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An excessive heat warning in effect on Wednesday didn't stop some Milwaukee Brewers fans from coming out in the early afternoon to support their favorite team.

Hundreds lined the parking lot outskirts, huddling under the shade provided by the trees.

Many determined tailgaters set up tents to help block the sun and turned to cold sandwiches and vegetable platters instead of the typical grills.

For Jodie of Tomah, Wisconsin, and her family, there was no question when it came to the thought of missing the game because of the high temperatures.

“We come every year no matter what the weather. We’ll set up the tents and that’s what we do," she said, noting it's an annual family tradition. "All the people of Milwaukee, here we are!"

This marked the first time they had to put up fans besides the tents.

"We brought different fans from everybody. We have one fan that’s a mister that’s battery operated, one of my nephews brought a generator, so everything’s hooked up and we have air blowing from all directions," she said.

And of course, the kids and adults made sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water and other drinks.

"Drink constantly, you have to be hydrated, don't exert yourself. If you're gonna walk in from the parking lot, take it halfway, stand and talk for a while, visit, take it another 50 steps depending on what your health issues are," she said. "Nobody should be pushing it today."

The warning has been expanded until 7 p.m. on Thursday evening for most of southeast Wisconsin.
