Executive from Milwaukee-based Lowlands Group receives Belgian honor for brewing excellence
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Ileana Rivera, chief operating officer of Milwaukee-based Lowlands Group, was recently inducted into the prestigious Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle in Brussels, Belgium.
The honor recognizes Rivera's contributions as a Belgian bier ambassador in the United States. The ceremony, held on Saturday, Sept. 2, was part of the 23rd annual Belgian Bier Weekend.
Rivera said in a press release announcing the event, "I am truly honored to be recognized by the Belgian Brewers’ Guild. This recognition further inspires me to uphold the traditions, share the stories and continue to deliver the exceptional quality of Belgian bier to our Lowlanders and to our guests."
The Knighthood of the Brewers' Paddle is one of the world's oldest professional organizations, dating back to the 13th century. It aims to preserve the traditions and nobility of the brewing profession.
Rivera has been with Lowlands Group for 15 years, developing one of the nation's largest Belgian bier programs. She joins Lowlands CEO Eric Wagner as the second honorary knight at the company.
This recognition holds special significance for the state of Wisconsin, as the Lowlands Group operates eight restaurants across the state. Among its establishments are Buckatabon Tavern & Supper Club, Café Benelux and Centraal Grand Café & Tappery, as well as Café Hollanders and more.
