MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Summer is right around the corner, with many schools wrapping up for the year in the coming days. One common question parents and kids alike have is: "What do I do with all this free time?"

While relaxation is welcome during the summer, it can get boring after a few days. Summer camps are a great way to keep kids busy while having fun and they give parents some much-needed time to themselves.

For young girls, the Girl Scouts of Southeast Wisconsin offer CampHERO summer camp. This overnight camp introduces girls, whether they are Girl Scouts or not, to careers in protective services fields like firefighting, policing and EMS. The girls receive hands-on training throughout the week with classic summer camp activities at night.

Organizers say this camp is special because it encourages girls to explore traditionally male-dominated fields. The camp runs from Sunday, June 23, to Friday, June 28, but registration is required online by Sunday, June 9.

Another camp option for children in grades 1 through 12 is The PEAK Initiative. PEAK stands for Potential, Experience, Access and Knowledge. The mission is to bring out "the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships."

This camp serves over 500 campers each year across Milwaukee and is free. Additionally, they are hiring for the summer.
