Families making a trip to the theater a part of their Christmas celebration

MEQUON, Wis. (CBS 58) - The Marcus North Shore Cinema in Mequon was the place to be on Christmas day, with people trading in the egg nogg and cookies for soda and popcorn.

“We celebrate our holiday on the 24th and so that tends to be our big celebration and Christmas day is our down day,” moviegoer Judi Ruppel said.

With different movies premiering on Christmas Day, the theater had several sellout crowds.

“Just change it up a little bit, we’ve been sticking around the house the last couple hours, we’ve got a lot of family that’s away right now, so we figured why not do something different,” moviegoer Brie Wolf said.

“Song Sung Blue” is one of the movies opening up on Christmas Day this year, and takes place in Milwaukee, following a Neil Diamond cover band.

“I’ve always been a Neil Diamond fan, so this will be really neat,” moviegoer Beth Acterberg said. “We’ve been to many of his concerts back in the day.”

Acterberg was at the movies on Thursday with her close friend Cathy Hopp, and the two bought tickets for the movie as soon as they could.

“As soon as we heard it was coming out on Christmas Day,” Hopp said.

Families being in and out of town made Christmas Day the perfect day for the two friends to see the movie together.

“It’s just different when your kids get older and then they have other families, you have to be fair,” Acterberg said. “It worked out well that we were both alone, otherwise we probably wouldn't be here.”
