Family continues to rally for answers nearly 1 month after D'Vontaye Mitchell's death outside Hyatt
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been almost a month since D'Vontaye Mitchell died while restrained outside a Hyatt Regency in downtown Milwaukee.
Since then, his family has held a number of protests and rallies, including last week during the RNC, in hopes of getting answers from law enforcement.
Mitchell's family says they're not stopping until they get justice and answers. They've been asking for truth and transparency for weeks now.
You may recall the family told us they watched some footage leading up to D'Vontaye Mitchell's last moments on Sunday, June 30.
They want that footage released so the whole world can see what they saw.
They told us Mitchell did not run into the women's bathroom at the Hyatt first. They say he was attacked by a security guard outside and he ran into the bathroom to try to get away. He ultimately died restrained by a few security guards outside the hotel.
The Hyatt Regency employees responsible for restraining Mitchell before he died have been fired, according to the company that operates the hotel. However, his mother, Brenda Giles, says patience for answers and criminal charges is running thin.
"I want justice for my son," said Giles. "I want charges to be made, I want videos to be shown, I want everything that they have. We need to see it, we need to see all the footage, we need to see everything. Everything, from the beginning to the end."
We reached out to the DA's office yet again on Tuesday, July 23. They say the case remains under review.
