Family gathers to remember 15-year-old murdered on street corner after killer is found guilty
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More than a year after 15-year-old Nelson Lopez Correa was murdered on a street corner at 16th and Forest Home, his killer was found guilty.
Correa was shot and killed October 28, 2024, while waiting for a bus.
A jury found 18-year-old Christian Martin responsible. He fled to Iowa after the shooting but was later arrested.
With the trial coming to a close, Correa's family gathered at 16th and Forest Home to remember him and they had strong words for Martin.
"We just want the person who did this to know we don't forgive you," said Correa's Aunt, Chary Correa. "We're happy you're going to be in jail the rest of your life, and even though you took our nephew, you made us stronger as a family."
Correa's family described him as someone with a great sense of humor, and someone loved by everyone who knew him.
Christian Martin will be sentenced in February.
