MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A mother and grandmother of a man who was killed in Milwaukee earlier this month are sharing the impact gun violence has had on their lives.

Yvonne and Dawn Davis told CBS 58 they couldn't picture a world without their son and grandchild, Christopher Davis.

“I used to take him everywhere I went and told people he was my kid," Yvonne Davis, Christopher Davis' grandmother, said. "So, this is like my kid is gone now.”

“He always helped people when he could," Dawn Davis said.

As the two women sat and looked at photos of their family member, they said they were left confused by the acts of violence that took Christopher Davis' life.

According to the criminal complaint, Christopher Davis died from a gunshot wound to his back and the left side of his chest on July 8. He was found on the pavement behind a gas station on 60th and Bradley.

Twenty-nine-year-old Crissy Jackson is now charged with first-degree reckless homicide in relation to Davis' death. According to the criminal complaint, she drove away from the scene after she allegedly shot Davis. Police were able to find her because of surveillance video at the gas station.

Jackson is being held in jail on a $200,000 cash bond.

“It’s devastating," Yvonne Davis said.

As the Davis family looks at old photos of Christopher Davis and reflects back on happier memories, they want people to know how gun violence can change families forever.

“You just wonder, where is the world going to?" Dawn Davis said. "You don’t believe it. You think maybe it’s something else. Even today I think maybe something would happen that would make him OK, but you know he’s not going to be OK, that he’s not ever coming back.”
