MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Family members of 56-year-old Anthony Edwards of Milwaukee say he died at the scene in a shooting near 51st and Center on Father's Day

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, officers were called to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. Edwards and another 44-year-old were shot. Police are continuing to look for suspects.

Edwards' daughter, who did not want to share her name or show her face on camera with CBS 58 as police search for suspects, said she was with her father hours before the shooting.

Edwards' daughter said she's one of his many children and stepchildren he helped raise.

“He’s everybody’s dad," Edwards' daughter said. "He’s everybody’s everything. He made people smile. If you had a problem, he always had an answer for it. Whether it was a good answer, or a bad answer, he always had an answer."

She said she was with her father on Father's Day. Hours later, she received a call from her sister that her father had been shot while he was on his way to a store in the area.

CBS 58 was at the scene Sunday night. Dozens of neighbors gathered outside as police responded to the scene.

“We drive by because our house is right here, everything closed off, there’s a whole bunch of police," said Zao Shatto, who lives near 51st and Center. “It’s not something that you want to see or hear about. At the end of the day, whoever was shot here or killed or wounded is somebody’s son."

Edwards' daughter and her family are now left to navigate what's next without they man they turned to for support.

“To the young man who killed my father, I wish I could have given you a hug to take your anger away. Hugs go a long way," Edwards' daughter said. “It’s hard trying to be strong for 12 other siblings when I don’t have the answer for them.”
