Fire damages former auto dealership near Good Hope and Teutonia
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department has confirmed to CBS 58 that a fire damaged a former auto dealership and service center near Good Hope and Teutonia in Milwaukee.
Firefighters say they responded to a report of a car fire at 9:11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Upon arrival, they found flames coming through the roof of a commercial building.
The fire intensified quickly, according to MFD, prompting additional units to be called to the scene.
Crews fought the blaze from the outside using three ladder trucks. After containing the flames, firefighters entered the building to take care of remaining hotspots, though access was complicated by partial collapses of the roof and a wall.
There were concerns about hazardous materials being present in the building, according to MFD, as responders were advised by the owner that oxygen cylinders, propane tanks and large quantities of motor oil were inside. However, responders determined that the fire did not reach those areas.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
The service area of the building sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by MFD’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Milwaukee Police Department.
