First severe weather chance of the year is coming for Friday.
CBS 58 The slight risk from the SPC has shifted further north across our area from yesterday. The models continue to be aggressive with several round of showers and storms throughout the day Friday.
This is a very challenging forecast with storms. This isn't cut and dried with just one round, so we don't know how the atmosphere will respond, especially this early in the season. Will there be enough instability to support strong to severe storms by Friday night?
The main severe weather threats will be hail and damaging winds. The tornado threat is low, but it isn't zero.
In addition to the severe risk, some areas could exceed 1" of rainfall. Some localized flooding will be possible.
First Round
The first wave will come through between 7 am and 11 am. While embedded storms are possible, we don't expect these storms to become strong to severe.
Second Round
The second wave will come through between 12 pm and 6 pm. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but isolated strong to severe storms are possible, especially hail and winds. Severity will depend upon the first round.
Third Round
The third wave will come through between 9 pm and 3 am. This is the one to watch closely. Storms that fire up in western Wisconsin will have the best chance to turn strong to severe. The question will be whether those storms can hold their strength. All modes of severe weather will be possible; however, winds and hail remain the largest threat.
