Hotspots remain from fire at a garbage disposal site in Whitewater, WI

WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Whitewater Dispatch received a report of smoke and flames at John’s Disposal recycling center at 107 County Highway U on Sunday, Jan. 8 around 9:51 p.m.

Authorities say they found one building fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

The Whitewater Fire Department responded to the scene along with help from a number of area fire departments.

Some personnel are still on scene containing hotspots.

No John’s Disposal employees were present at the time the fire was reported, and there are no known injuries at this time.

Traffic has been reopened on County Highway U, however, authorities ask that the public avoid the area at this time.

Further information will be released when available.

A representative from John’s Disposal told City staff that trash and recycling pickup is expected to remain on schedule.

Any potential delays are not anticipated to last more than 24hours

WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Whitewater fire crews are currently fighting a five-alarm fire at John's Disposal Services on Road U.

The call for the fire came in around 10:00 p.m. last night.

Whitewater fire says Highway U is shut down between Fremont and Highway D and that crews will be on scene for quite some time this morning.

We are working to learn more details about how this fire started and if anyone was hurt.
