Former state Sen. George Petak, who cast deciding vote to fund construction of Miller Park, passes away

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Former Wisconsin state Sen. George Petak has died.

Wisconsin GOP chair Brian Schimming shared the news in a post on social media Tuesday, Dec. 24. 

While representing Racine in the Wisconsin Senate, Petak cast the deciding vote in 1995 to fund construction of Miller Park, now AmFam Field.

Many have shared statements Tuesday mourning his death, including the Milwaukee Brewers.

Governor Tony Evers released the following statement regarding Petak's passing:

“Kathy and I join the people of Wisconsin in mourning the loss of Sen. Petak today,” Gov. Evers said. “Sen. Petak was a man of faith, courage, and principle. He truly had a servant’s heart, always leading with empathy and integrity to give back and do more for others. Kathy and I join the people of Wisconsin in mourning the loss of Sen. Petak and offer our sincerest sympathies to his wife, kids, loved ones, and the many whose lives he touched.”
