MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A decade before committing to Wisconsin, Myles Burkett was already a Badger.
“I literally went from playing for a pee-wee Badgers team, thinking ‘oh man what if I played for the Badgers,’ to now a year from now I’m going to be walking into the University of Wisconsin as a Badger to play on the team," Myles said.
The three-star dual-threat quarterback committed to Wisconsin this week.
“It’s crazy to think how you go from a diehard fan and dreamer to ‘it’s go time.’”
Franklin’s first team all-region QB says the Badgers are getting a hard worker who is always learning. That mentality fueled Myles when he was on the bench as a freshman and asked to consider switching positions.
“I’m glad I bet on myself this whole time because without the hard work and without the mental standpoint of where I was, I don’t think I’d be here now.”
Myles started to realize that playing for the Badgers was possible last year, but his great grandmother always knew.
“She’s looking down on me smiling with the smile that lights up a room. She was the first one to believe in me. She believed in me more than I believed in myself to be honest.”
Florence Burkett passed away two years ago, but her memory will live on through Myles playing for her favorite school.
“To know that I’m going to be carrying on her legacy and putting her last name on the main stage is a huge blessing. I’m super grateful.”
