Free lead testing clinic launches at Children's Wisconsin Next Door Clinic

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With the ongoing lead hazards found in multiple Milwaukee public schools, the Milwaukee Health Department has launched a free testing clinic that started Thursday, March 20.

It's located at the Children's Wisconsin Next Door Clinic on N. 29th Street. Appointments are not required, and walk-ins are accepted.

Kids who do not attend MPS but who still wish to be tested for lead levels are also welcome.

"What will happen is that we have every child wash their hands well, with soap and water," said Heather Paradis, medical director, Children's Wisconsin integrated lead program. "They will receive a finger poke, and that test result will come back in three to five minutes."

If their lead level is elevated, the child will then get their blood drawn from a vein for further testing.

The clinic is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m.
