Gov. Evers participates in day of service at Governor Nelson State Park in honor of Earth Day
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Governor Tony Evers and members of his administration celebrated Earth Day Tuesday morning by going to Governor Nelson State Park in Dane County.
The park is named for Gaylord Nelson, who is considered the father of Earth Day. They participated in a day of service, which included tree planting.
In 2021, Wisconsin joined the global Trillion Trees Pledge, and since then, we're told the state has achieved more than 40% of its tree planting goal and 60% of its forest conservation goal.
"This year is kind of special too because we have some, I guess I would say, pushback, on the federal level, whether there is such a thing as climate change and whether we have to worry about the earth," said Gov. Evers. "And instead, we're, 'drill, baby, drill.' And here we are, we're fighting back against that."
The governor has proclaimed this week Forest Appreciation Week.
He and his team are inviting people all over Wisconsin to take action to protect the earth. Actions like cutting down on waste, recycling, conserving water, and more.
