MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Out with the old, in with the new.
City leaders and Urban Ecology Center staff dug into the ground starting the construction on Prairie Springs on Park.
What once was a cream city brick warehouse will now be an event venue fit for 300 people, along with a community greenspace at Riverside Park.
Once the new space is ready, Prairie Springs on Park will host eco-friendly events.
"It is a difficult thing to say that we're going to do the most important events in someone's life with very little waste, we've already been doing that for many years and we're going to bring it to this space as well, so we're excited to model that for the community," said Jen Hense, executive director with the Urban Ecology Center.
CBS 58 was told the project will cost $8.2 million dollars, and they've raised $6.4 million so far.
