Hales Corners Fire Department warns residents about scam

HALES CORNERS, Wis. (CBS 58) – The Hales Corners Fire Department is warning residents about a scam going through the community.

Fire officials say some residents have received letters asking them to volunteer for the fire department and to donate money. The letter claims to be from the “Hales Corners Area Volunteer Firefighter Drive”.

In a statement on Facebook, interim fire chief Martin Freibergs said, “At no point did the Village of Hales Corners or the Hales Corners Fire Department establish a relationship with the group Volunteer Firefighter Alliance. We were not aware of their fund raising campaign, and there is no intent for their monies collected to reach the Hales Corners Fire Department.”

The fire department has filed a complaint with the police department and asks any residents who receive the letter to do the same.
