Friday, April 10, the sheriff said the woman's claims are not true and that he has the proof.
Sheriff Schmidt says the woman lied, and so did an Illinois official. Now he's suing each of them for at least $1 million.
This stems from an incident that began March 5 in Illinois.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sunny Naqvi said she'd just flown from Turkey to O'Hare airport when she was detained by federal agents. She claimed she was then held at a Chicago detention center for 30 hours and then moved to the Dodge County Jail.
Sheriff Schmidt was adamant that did not happen, that Naqvi was never booked in the Dodge County Jail, and she was never in the custody of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.
Schmidt says extensive security video, traffic records, receipts, hotel records, and cellphone data all disprove Naqvi's claims.
Friday afternoon, Schmidt gave a visual presentation that showed what he says was the real timeline. He says Naqvi was released from inspection at the airport after one hour, and that she checked into an Illinois hotel an hour-and-a-half after that.
Two days later, he said, Naqvi did travel to Wisconsin, but voluntarily.
"I don't have any charges here in Dodge County I can bring against her," Sheriff Schmidt said. "My only recourse is to make sure the public knows that she can't do this."
