'He lived for his family': Milwaukee family grieving father of 4 with baby on the way
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee family is grieving after a beloved father of four, with a baby on the way, drowned Saturday.
"All he wanted to do was provide for his family, and he loved doing that. He lived for his family the whole time," said Aydee Mejia, Juan Mejia's niece.
Aydee says Juan was on a boat on Nagawicka Lake in Delafield with his friends Saturday when he jumped in the water and never resurfaced. When search and rescue teams found Juan, who was 38 years old, he was dead.
"He enjoyed being in the water," said Aydee. "He was a good swimmer, so for us, this was something very unexpected and tragic for the family."
To his family, Juan was the man they say they could always count on.
"He was really the definition of fun uncle," said Aydee. "He was a very caring, strong and hard-working man."
Juan was a father of four, and his wife is currently pregnant with their fifth child.
"It's been really hard on our family knowing that he won’t meet his fifth child," said Aydee.
Aydee says Juan lived for his family and worked in construction and home carpentry.
Now, his wife is reeling from the loss of her loving husband.
"It’s really hard knowing that her husband is not coming back to be in bed with her ever again," said Aydee. "He won’t be there to tuck in his children to sleep, that was something that he was always there for, his children."
Aydee says her family will never be the same without the man who she says always went out of his way to help others.
"His wife, he lived for them, so for her, she was -- she was a stay-at-home mom, and so for her, it’s just -- she’s going to have to start all over."
A GoFundMe has been started to support the family; you can find it here.
