MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As Black History Month continues, an event focused on the power in community wellness.
Milwaukee Recreation hosted "Healing the Dream" at Washington High School Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18.
The event highlighted the importance of wellness and strengthening connections to wellness in Milwaukee's Black community.
Attendees enjoyed interactive workshops, yoga, a sound bath, free massages, and a self-defense lesson.
Organizers say they're hoping the event increases awareness about community resources available to people of color in the wellness space.
"As the wellness supervisor, I'm seeing a lack of safe spaces for us, especially when it comes to wellness. Also, we aren't having a lot of people...signing up for our wellness program so we really wanted to promote why wellness is important and why wellness should be part of everyone's toolbox," said Cearra Stinson, wellness supervisor with Milwaukee Recreation.
