WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) — A new large-scale sculpture collection was unveiled Friday at Firefly Grove Park in Wauwatosa, adding a new attraction alongside the park's popular Mama Rosa troll.

The centerpiece, called "Sacred Rhythm Mother," features a large human face emerging from the earth, with an arm extending into the park as if releasing animals into the wild. The project was created by the artist team Walk the Willow and funded through room tax dollars.

The sculpture represents Mother Earth lifting her head in hope while releasing seven animals back into the wild, including a green heron, great blue heron, mallard duck, belted kingfisher, mink, turtles and a muskrat.

"The new sculptures that will become the Sacred Rhythm Mother represent another truly unique attraction anyone can experience in Firefly Grove Park," Discover Wauwatosa tourism specialist Beth Gleesing said. "The park is quickly becoming a microcosm for what we want locals and visitors to experience in Wauwatosa — a place where art, nature, fitness, and community intersect."

The head of Sacred Rhythm Mother stands approximately 11 feet tall at its highest point and measures up to 18 feet wide and 22 feet long.

The installation also includes an ADA-compliant archway near the top of the head and two smaller openings near the ears that allow visitors to enter the natural space inside the sculpture.

The arm stretches approximately 34 feet and stands about 8 feet tall and 9 feet wide. The animal sculptures range from 1 to 7 feet tall.

Sacred Rhythm Mother is located in the southeast corner of Firefly Grove Park, stretching from about midway up the large hill to its base. The placement was designed so the park's sledding hill can still be used during the winter.

The sculptures were made using buckthorn, willow, driftwood, recycled metal, recycled wood and other found materials, with a metal armature serving as the framework for the installation.

"We're thrilled to create such a momentous piece like Sacred Rhythm Mother in one of the most whimsical and imaginative parks we've ever seen," Walk the Willow CEO and lead artist Justin Roberts said. "It's clear to us that Wauwatosa shares a similar goal and passion as our team — creating conversations about restoring our natural world through awe-inspiring art."

Firefly Grove Park is also home to Mama Rosa, along with a playground featuring natural play areas, a retention pond and the region's only bike pump track.
