Heavy storms down trees, leaving damage and power outages across SE Wisconsin
SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- We've had some hectic weather as storms and tornado warnings hit Southeast Wisconsin Tuesday night, Aug. 18.
In one Sussex neighborhood just south of Good Hope Road, a long stretch of trees is down. We spoke with a family nearby who was inside when the storm hit earlier.
"Literally about to get down into the basement, and turn around and the tree is gone. Didn't even hear cracking, didn't hear sounds, just literally noticed the whole thing had been twisted off."
This is just a couple miles from where an EF-2 tornado hit back in April.
"Honestly feel blessed. It could have been a lot worse. Didn't hit the house, no one is hurt, and same thing with the neighbors. Trees down, but no one is hurt, so just really blessed and sad to see it go."
In Milwaukee, first responders are checking out storm damage.
On the city's near west side, broken tree limbs can be seen covering Wy'east Pizza, with what looks to be damage to their roof.
And a large tree collapsed on a home in Waukesha, leaving a trail of debris and branches.
More than 30,000 people are without power as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, according to the We Energies outage map. That includes more than 21,000 in Milwaukee County and 11,000 outages in Waukesha County.
