Shoppers hit the stores for last-minute Christmas Eve gifts
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Saturday, March 25, the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) men's basketball team made history.
For the first time, the team won a national championship trophy.
The victory came as the Stormers took on Macomb Community College in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national championship game.
"I knew our guys were ready to play and ready to fight," said Randy Casey, head men's basketball coach.
Casey has been a coach at MATC for 15 years. He said his players trained and worked hard for this moment in history.
"Just looking at it (trophy) over and over, and just still like can't believe that it actually happened," said Casey.
The players on the team are also adjusting to their new title.
"I don’t know if it hit me just yet, as much as I expected it to hit me," said Mikale Stevenson, sophomore point guard with the Stormers.
The school often looked at as underdogs, being the 7th seed in the division, showing winning has no bounds.
"It is putting in that hard work no matter where you're at, no matter what circumstance there may be in your way, just knowing that the hard work can overcome," said Casey.
The school is planning on a rally on April 5, to celebrate their historic championship title.
