Hit-and-run: Car traveling 80 mph kills 20-year-old woman, injures her sister
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The family of a Milwaukee woman is in mourning after a driver killed her and injured her sister in a hit-and-run crash.
"I mean, I couldn't believe my eyes," Mohamed Odeh said.
Mohamed Odeh is the manager at Furniture Land on N. 76th Street. The store's security cameras caught the moment a speeding driver hit 20-year-old Talise Dunmore and her 23-year-old sister, De-Lisha, as they crossed the street shortly before midnight on Saturday, Sept. 22.
"People are normally already speeding on this street, I mean 50 and what not. That car flew past them. [It] had to be going at least 80, minimum," Odeh said.
On Monday, the Milwaukee County medical examiner released its report into Dunmore's death. The ME confirmed the car that hit the two women was traveling roughly 80 miles per hour and sent Dunmore between 50 and 75 feet in the air. The posted speed limit is 40 miles per hour.
"It's scary just to think about. Anything can happen on this corner. I've seen it all. Crashing into the building, someone getting hit, shootings," Odeh said.
The ME's report confirms Dunmore was wearing a black romper and pink sandals that night and Odeh's cameras caught the pair walking in front of the store just moments before the crash.
"They were parked in our parking lot. I saw them walk around here," Odeh explained.
The car that hit the women was found a few miles from the crash with biological matter and hair stuck in its windshield. A 34-year-old was taken into custody and charges are pending review by the district attorney's office.
The mother of Talise and De-Lisha Dunmore tells CBS 58 they are struggling with the loss of Talise, a nail technician with dreams of opening her own salon. They also said they are grateful that De-Lisha is alive and only suffered a fractured knee, a sprained ankle and wrist.
